Many years of planning will come to fruition in June of this year when Decorative Panels Components will be fully operational in their new 175,000ft² facility.

The amalgamation of the two existing smaller components sites under one massive roof represents an investment of over £8.5 million by the group bringing large increases in capacity availability as well as increasing efficiencies in both labour and material utilisation. The latest most efficient production machinery coupled with a high level of mechanical handling is already installed with production trials fully underway.

Talking with Malcolm Forward, MD of dpc and Lynn Atkinson, Sales Director of dpc, it is clear that the benefits to the market of this move are vast...“dpc will have the capabilities to produce over 500,000 panels per week, an increase of over 40% on current levels, and this is on standard shift patterns. As demand increases we have the ability to run the site 24 hours a day 7 days a week bringing even more incremental capacity increases. Not only have we invested in the latest production machinery we have also installed a fully barcode controlled raw material and finished goods stock retrieval system. High bay racking of over 400 packs of sheet material in goods inwards as well as 1500 finished goods pallet locations give us the flexibility and scope to increase the breadth of products we are able to offer.”

So what products will the new factory be able to offer...“dpc has always been a significant producer of panels for the furniture industry with a particular skill being high volume kitchen carcase and fascia panels. We will be able to significantly expand this offer by offering more to the kitchen industry as well as bedroom panels and shelving components – basically anything that the industry requires can be made in this facility. As well as standard chipboard, mdf and thin board conversion the machinery is all specified to be able to process dp-lite hollowcore material and all our dp-reflections high gloss material. In the new facility we are installing a semi-automatic packing line for fully glued boxing of over 3500 boxes per shift to finished furniture specification giving us further scope to expand the offer.”
